Blackberries have a row of thorns on the ridge in the center of the leaflets. Blackberries are an aggregate fruit, a fleshy berry made up of multiple drupes. As the berries ripen, they turn from white to red and deep purple and black when fully ripe. The antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals found in blackberries deliver a variety of health benefits. Antioxidants such as anthocyanins hold many anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. They may also combat diabetes and certain kinds of cancer.
