Coconut is the fruit of the coconut palm and is used for its water, milk, oil well as for its tasty meat. The three marks on the coconut (Nariyal) are considered to be the three eyes of Lord Shiva. That is why coconut is termed auspicious in puja rituals. The coconut fruit is also a symbol of the human ego (ahankar). The breaking of coconut is a representation of breaking one's ego and humbling oneself before God. It can be eaten as food or used as medicine. Coconut is taken by mouth for bladder stones, diabetes, high cholesterol, and weight loss. In foods, coconut is used in various preparations.
