Long Squash (Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl.) is a dicotyledon species and a member of the cucumber family (Cucurbitaceae). It is also known as birdhouse gourd, bottle gourd, calabash gourd, hard-shelled gourd, dolphin gourd, long melon, opo squash, trumpet gourd, and white-flower gourd (Lim 2012). It has a mild and slightly sweet taste/flavor that is detected by your taste buds while young but once it hits maturity, the taste slightly changes to bitter. You can eat the botanic fruit while it's young or matured (but remove the skin and seeds once it's matured) when cooked.
