An easy and delicious rice recipe made with ground sesame seeds. This sesame rice recipe is known as ellu sadam in tamil language where Ellu means sesame seeds and Sadam means rice. Many rice varieties are made in South Indian households and this is one such staple rice variety. A vegan recipe.

Ingredients
- 1 Cup Cooked Rice 1 Cup - 250ml
- ¼ Cup Sesame Seeds We can use black or white Sesame seeds
- 2 tsp Urad Dal
- 1 tsp Split Bengal Gram (Channa Dal / Kadalaparuppu)
- 1 tbsp Peanuts
- 1 Red Chili
- 1 tsp Peppercorns
- 1 tsp Salt Adjust As Needed
- 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 tsp Split Bengal Gram (Channa Dal / Kadalaparuppu)
- 1 tsp Split Urad Dal
- 1 tsp Peanuts
- 1 Red Chili
- few Curry leaves
FOR TEMPERING
Directions
- Heat a pan, dry fry the sesame seeds till they starts to sputter. Take the roasted sesame seeds in a mixer. Then add the remaining grinding ingredients to the pan and dry fry them till the dals turn golden brown color
- Allow the fried ingredients to cool off and then grind it to a coarse powder in a mixer. Heat Oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds starts to sputter, add channa dal, urid dal and fry till they turn brown color
- Then add broken red chilli, curry leaves and peanuts and fry for 10 seconds. Add cooked and cooled rice along with salt. Add 2 tablespoon of ground sesame seeds powder and mix well but make sure not be mash the rice. Gently stir and mix the sesame powder with the rice
